Exeter Chiefs trolled as fan points out new badge looks just like Rylan Clark

Exeter Chiefs have been trolled on social media after a fan pointed out that their new badge looks just like television presenter Rylan Clark.

The Premiership Rugby side unveiled their new badge and branding on Thursday, after announcing they will drop their use of Native Americans within their image.

The Chiefs had been accused of cultural appropriation due to their branding, with some fans of the club also wearing headdresses at matches in the past.

Their rebranding comes after NFL franchise Washington Football Team dropped their 'Redskins' name and branding back in July 2020 after facing criticism for similar reasons.

The club's new identity will focus on a Celtic warrior, taking inspiration from a Dumnonii tribe that were based in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset during the iron age.

However, the unveiling of the club's new badge led to the club being trolled after one fan pointed out a striking resemblance to former X-Factor contestant Clark.

A Twitter user commented on their announcement video a screenshot of the new badge along with the caption: "We luv you Rylan."

Other fans were quick to admit they now could not unsee the comparison and began to join in mocking the new Chiefs logo.

One fan added: "The Exeter Rylans," while another wrote: "That's uncanny."

A third fan later commented: “In one post you’ve undone months of work hahaha, I cannot unsee Rylan now.”

Exeter's new badge and branding will be launched in July one month after the conclusion of the current Premiership season.

The Chiefs will hope to welcome in their new era as champions, having reached each of the last six Premiership finals, winning two of them.

One game short of the halfway stage in the season, Exeter are currently one place outside the play-off places, trailing fourth place Gloucester by two points after 11 matches.
