Shaq responds to Draymond Green’s claim Warriors would ‘destroy’ him: ‘I would have torn your a— up’
Draymond Green has started yet another feud with an NBA Hall of Famer.
The Warriors forward, who already has beef with Charles Barkley, started another fire in late April when he joined the “All the Smoke” podcast and said Golden State would have “destroyed” Shaquille O’Neal with the pick and roll while he was in his prime.
Green gave that assessment when asked to compare his team to the ’90s Bulls and early-2000s Lakers (spoiler: He thinks the Warriors are the greatest).
“Shaq (was) my favorite player, growing up as a kid,” Draymond said. “I had Orlando Magic night lights and f—ing onesie pajamas and s— like that. Shaq has always been one of my favorite players. But I’ve always watched the game as a student of the game. Me and Steph Curry would have f—ing destroyed Shaq in the pick and roll.”
To his credit, Green said O’Neal would have “murdered” him on the block, and described how one team’s success over the other would depend greatly on the era in which they played.
“In our era of basketball, we would have destroyed them,” Green said. “But in Shaq and Kobe’s era, where they’re f—ing dumping the ball down to Shaq, we probably would have got crushed. That’s just the reality.”
That didn’t matter — once O’Neal heard what Green said, he was having none of it. He recently joined his own podcast, “The Big Podcast,” to respond in kind. Before he clapped back, however, O’Neal pointed to the several provisos Green made to back up his claims, saying he made several good arguments.
“I try not to get personal with people’s opinions,” O’Neal said. “But however, Mr. Draymond, like you said, I would’ve torn your a— up on that block.”
As Green said, that’s just reality. Now the ball’s in his court on whether he escalates this into an actual feud.
