Anthony Joshua will finally step into the ring and face Oleksandr Usyk in their world heavyweight championship bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight. The Brit’s WBA, WBA and IBF world titles will be on the line against the Ukrainian.

Joshua has not fought since his ninth round knockout win over Kubrat Pulev in December 2020.

=He has slimmed down as a leaner frame allows for greater speed, which ‘AJ’ has clearly chosen as his weapon of choice.

Joshua has been sparring with amateurs in order to imitate his opponent’s style, but Usyk believes such fighters will have struggled to replicate his directness and speed.

“I do believe I will win and my compatriots and my followers believe that too,” the Ukrainian warned. “I will do everything to win, but you should not shout about it at every corner.

“At this moment in my career, this is my biggest fight. My opponent is an Olympic champion, he holds three versions of the world title, he’s a cool opponent.

“But I believe it has been extremely difficult for him to get any sparring or sparring partners to help him prepare for me.”

Joshua is the favourite to retain his titles and the world champion has been playing down the size of the spectacle.

“I don’t really fight good fighters because I want people to respect me or anything like that,” he said. “It’s not complicated. If you told me I was fighting King Kong, I would give it a go, honestly.

“It’s an opportunity for me to work, this is my job. I’m just going to work, he’s going to work. It’s a blessing. These are the best days of my life.

“For a fighter like myself this is just another day in camp. You’ve got to want to train, to put the work in, improve, practice. That’s what I like.

“I like the challenges because I train, come back three months later and beat the guys up who were giving me problems.

“This fight gives me the motivation to practice.”

Joshua clashes with Usyk in their world heavyweight title bout tonight while bitter rival Tyson Fury defends his WBC title against Deontay Wilder in the third instalment of their grudge trilogy on October 9.
