Boxer apologises after filming sick video

British boxer Billy Joe Saunders filmed a sick video appearing to instruct men on how hit their partners during the coronavirus lockdown.

The 30-year-old then offered a grovelling apology when the footage surfaced, having received a heavy backlash for the vile film.

In the clip that reportedly circulated on WhatsApp and was obtained by the Mirror, Saunders is standing alone next to a punch bag. The WBO super-middleweight champion demonstrates a straight right hand followed by a left hook.

He accompanied the punches with the following message.

“I just wanted to make a little video for all you dads, husbands, if you’ve got girlfriends etc. Obviously this COVID-19 is getting very serious and we are isolated away,” Saunders says.

“If your old woman is giving you mouth and you try to be patient, you try to be calm, cool, but after the sixth day you’re just about to explode.

“All of a sudden she’s coming at you, spitting a bit of venom in your face, ready to say something, you may have left the dishes out, I don’t know what you’ve done but you’ve upset her.

“As she comes in, she’s coming at you and you’ve lost it, just keep it safe with the hands. So as she comes in, she’s just about to say something, all of a sudden you explode and hit her on the chin.

“At this time she may flash and see white and think, ‘What’s happened?’, she’s in a state of a horror.

“She doesn’t know what’s going on and all of a sudden you dip down on that knee and you finish her off. That should do the trick.”

A number of social media users were understandably outraged by the video.

One wrote: “He is an absolute disgrace. Continuously painting boxing, the sport I love, in a bad light. We don’t need characters like Billy Joe in the sport, he’ll never learn and has so many chances.”

While another called for strong action: “I hope Billy Joe Saunders loses his license for that video. Utter trash. No place in society at all”.

“Just seen that video Billy Joe Saunders did. What an utter scumbag, nothing funny about domestic violence at all yet I can see a lot justifying it saying it’s just dark humour.

“Not even a flippant remark, went out of his way to do the video. Some ppl are just rotten to the core..” another added.

Saunders later apologised on Twitter, writing: “I would never condone domestic violence and if I saw a man touch a woman I would smash him to pieces myself I have a Daughter and if a man laid a finger on her it would be end well. Apologies if I offended any women stay blessed x”.

It’s not Saunders first disgraceful foray.

He had his trainer Ben Davison and stablemate Josh Taylor kicked off a plane after calling Delta Airlines with a coronavirus warning.

An audio clip surfaced which appeared to reveal him laughing as he recalled ringing Delta Airlines to tell them a friend of his had COVID-19 and was preparing to board the flight.

In a separate clip, the raging trio tell Saunders: “Well done Billy Joe, your plan worked. We’re not on the flight now. We’re in serious trouble bruv. So thanks for that.

“Me, Ben and Josh pulled off the plane. We may be getting a 24-hour holding because they think we’ve got [coronavirus].”

The friend was tested and eventually allowed to fly home.

Saunders was also fined $200,000 in 2018 by the British Boxing Board of Control for posting a video in which he offered a woman drugs to perform a sex act on another person.

The 30-year-old was scheduled to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 5 in Las Vegas, before all boxing events were KO’d by the coronavirus.
