Boxing news: Anthony Joshua predicts Tyson Fury fight, Deontay Wilder bashed, Canelo plan

Boxing news – Anthony Joshua predicts Tyson Fury fight

Unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has revealed he more than fancies his chances in a unification fight with his WBC counterpart Tyson Fury.

“I am looking at Tyson Fury like I am going to walk through him as well,” Joshua said in an interview with DAZN’s Chris Mannix. “I had my issue last year [losing to Ruiz], I got through it and I want to correct it.

“People don’t know what that does for a fighter mentally when he loses in front of the world and what it takes to come back. Having this time to reflect has been a blessing in disguise.”

Boxing news – Deontay Wilder slammed

Former four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr has slammed Deontay Wilder for claiming Fury isn’t the true WBC heavyweight champion.

The former heavyweight champion told IFL TV: “You can’t call him nothing but a real champion.

“The guy beat you, you fought a seven-round fight and a 12-round fight, that’s 19 rounds and the guy probably won 14 or 15 of the 19 rounds, so how can you say he’s not a real champion?

“He beat you and took you out for your title, so how can you say he’s not a real champion?”

Boxing news – Canelo Alvarez update from promoter

Unified middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is eager to box abroad and has considered fighting in the United Kingdom, according to Golden Boy Promotion’s president Eric Gomez.

“He wants to fight abroad and we have discussed with him fighting in Japan, a homecoming in Mexico, and the UK,” Gomez told Sky Sports.

“He has considered all of those options and, before he retires, he will fight abroad.

“We were considering the UK. It can happen in the next two years.

“It’s about his brand. He wants to become a more international star, not just fighting in the US.

“He wants to become an even bigger star than he is now. He has fans all over the world and he wants to build on that.”
