Chris Eubank Jr vs Anatoli Muratov off as Wembley bout cancelled at 11th hour
Chris Eubank's Jr fight against Anatoli Muratov this evening is off.
The duo had been due to face each other at Wembley Arena, but Muratov is unable to compete after the British Boxing Board of Control raised concerns over his pre-fight medicals.
Sky Sports announced the rest of the show will go ahead as planned, including a European title bout between David Avanesyan and Liam Taylor and an English title eliminator between Germaine Brown and Jamal Le Doux.
Promoter Kalle Sauerland said: "It is an extremely unfortunate situation for Chris.
"However, the health and safety of boxers is always our number one concern and at this late stage it wasn’t possible to find a suitable replacement.
“I know Chris was looking forward to fighting tonight at The SSE Arena, Wembley and starring as the new face of Sky Sports Boxing.
"We are already in discussions regarding a new date for Chris and fans can expect to see him back in the ring very soon.”
Eubank has fought just since December 2019, beating Marcus Morrison on points in May this year.
“Obviously we are all disappointed that Chris Eubank Jr. can no longer compete on tonight’s card, but it is important to make the right decision in the interests of fighters’ health and safety,” said BOXXER’s Ben Shalom.
"We’re grateful to the British Board of Boxing Control for the standards they employ to protect that
“My thoughts go out to Chris, who has had a very difficult time lately. He will come back stronger and remains a key figure in Sky Sports plans. Chris will be returning with a big fight in the next few weeks.
“Tonight’s card remains stacked with great fights from top to bottom, including the European Welterweight Championship bout in the main event, the English Super-Middleweight Title Eliminator bout between Germaine Brown and Jamal Ledoux and the return of top cruiserweight prospect Richard Riakporhe.”
Eubank Jr had planned to dedicate his ring return to late brother Sebastian by wearing his name on his fight shorts.
“It’s been tough I have never dealt with anything like this in my life,” Eubank Jr said on This Morning. “And I don’t know how this will affect me in the ring, losing such a close family member it has been a rough ride.
“But yes I am dedicating this fight to my brother, I am going to get his name on my shorts and we will get his son Raheem in the ring afterwards.
“I will dedicate everything to him he is a great soul, we are going to continue to do everything to keep his name going.”
