Conor McGregor’s heartwarming interaction with Dustin Poirier’s wife Jolie
After Dustin Poirier dismantled Conor McGregor last Sunday in a brutal beat down, the question on most people’s lips has been about if this is the end of The Notorious.
But while the post-mortem on McGregor’s first TKO loss in his professional MMA career began, behind the scenes a much different conversation was being had.

A regular behind the scenes feature by the UFC is the show The Thrill and the Agony which takes fans into the change rooms for a closer look at the fights that have happened.
In a five minute sneak peak released by the UFC, viewers got a look into Michael Chandler’s win over New Zealander Dan Hooker followed by Poirier’s stunning TKO of McGregor.
While showing the emotion after Hooker’s first round loss and the ecstasy of Chandler’s UFC debut win, the footage went up close and personal with Poirier and his wife Jolie.
Straight after the fight, Jolie told cameras “I told you! That’s the last time you’re going to doubt my husband, I swear to God.”
But after McGregor was backstage licking his wounds — and icing his calves — Jolie paid McGregor a visit to thank him for a $500,000 donation he made to Poirier’s charity The Good Fight Foundation.
While the world mostly knows McGregor as a brash, trash talking figure, his usual bravado was replaced with a sweetness the world has scarcely seen from UFC star.
“Hello Jolie, how are you?” he asked.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much,” Jolie said.
McGregor added: “Congratulations tonight, he fought a great fight.”
Jolie replied: “Thank you for everything. It’s going to help change a lot of people’s lives.”

The pair exchanged some small talk and Jolie departed, something that the world isn’t used to from McGregor.
The world has seen a new McGregor in recent times with the usual trash talk missing from the fight against Donald Cerrone and now Poirier.
Poirier even praised McGregor before the fight for the donation.
“I don’t want to seem like we are up here giving each other back massages but I just wanted to clear the air,” Poirier said. “Conor’s team, McGregor Sports Entertainment did reach out to my foundation and they are starting the donation to The Good Fight Foundation and we have huge plans for that.
“So Conor, man to man, you are going to help a lot of people with that.”
McGregor also gave Poirier props, saying in the lead up: “I am honoured to share the Octagon with this man. I know we have this competitive fire, and it’s still there, there’s no denying that and it’s going to be a good fireworks filled bout but the respect is admirable for this man from me.”

McGregor has been working on philanthropic causes in recent times, including donating to the Australian bushfire relief and donating $1.8m worth of personal protective equipment to fight COVID in Ireland, including dropping off PPE to the Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Poirier also revealed he was auctioning off his fight worn gear taking to social media to thank fans for donating to the charity.

The Good Fight Foundation charity was started by Dustin and Jolie to help under-served communities in Louisiana.
The Poirier’s have been together since they were teenagers and an emotional Poirier paid tribute to his better half in the aftermath of the biggest win of his career, gaining revenge for his 2014 defeat to McGregor.
Asked about his wife by an interviewer who said “I’ve never seen anybody so happy, literally doing laps of the Octagon, screaming and shouting”, Poirier took a moment to reflect on what his relationship means.
“I heard her. As soon as I hit that last shot and turned away I heard my wife,” Poirier told BT Sport. “She ran straight to the cage and said, ‘I told you so!’.

“(When I was young) I didn’t have a car. She’d drive me to shows (fights), we’d use her car, she’d stay in the broken down hotels and motels with me.
“Man, I don’t want to get emotional here but that’s my girl, she’s stuck it out with me, this win is as much hers as it is mine.
“I wouldn’t be here without her, that’s for sure.”
