Jake Paul and Daniel Cormier in heated confrontation following "kill" claim

Jake Paul and Daniel Cormier were involved in a heated confrontation at UFC 261 last night.

YouTube star Paul became a target for former two-weight UFC champion Cormier following his first-round stoppage of Ben Askren last weekend.

Cormier had vowed he would "kill" Paul if they ever met in a fight – and the two had a heated argument for several minutes in Florida.

“I swear to god I just saw Jake Paul, I pointed at him and I said, ‘Don’t play with me,’ because I’ll smack him in the face," Cormier said afterwards. "He’s right there. I don’t play those games."

The crowd responded to the altercation by shouting "F*** Jake Paul" as the social media star revelled in the attention.

UFC president Dana White said: "This kid has done a good job of putting himself in a place to make some money. Good for him, he's got guys talking about him all the time and Daniel Cormier running after him so he's doing something right."

Paul has won all three of his professional boxing bouts having stopped fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, former NBA star Nate Robinson and then former MMA champion Askren.

And his most recent win drew the ire of the MMA community, including Cormier, who said: "I mean the way this dude talked to T- wood [Tyron Woodley] makes my skin crawl. All these kids are going to get taught a lesson I swear.

"This dude would never fight me. I would kill him. Why would I ever fight someone like that?

"But my immediate reaction was, 'I can't stand this kid.' So it works! I can't stand this kid! But who punches down? You don’t punch down to somebody.

"I'm the guy that's in the Hall of Fame. I'm the guy that won two world championships at the same time.I'm not gonna punch down to some kid that's on YouTube that's, like, 'Fight me!' Like, why? What have you done to earn the right to fight me?

"So, no, it's silly and stupid. But I would like him to fight Tyron. I would like to see him fight somebody more real. Don't fight Ben Askren at 190, bloated.

"Fight a middleweight. Fight Luke Rockhold! Let me see you fight Luke Rockhold or somebody like that. And then I will not only say that you have base skills, I will say you're a real fighter. Because right now it's all pretend. It's all pretend."
