Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson net worths compared as pair prepare for rematch

Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson are set to go head-to-head for a second time later this year.

The heavyweight legends first met in an ill-tempered affair back in 2002, with Tyson infamously biting Lewis at the pre-fight press conference and losing $335,000 out of his purse as a result.

When they eventually stepped in the ring, it was the Brit who prevailed by knockout after eight rounds.

Now almost 19 years on from that fight Lewis and Tyson, both in their 50s, are poised for an unexpected rematch in September.

And ahead of the fight, Daily Star Sport have broken down each boxing icon’s net worth.

Lennox Lewis

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lewis is still worth a staggering £100million despite retiring from the sport back in 2003.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion received a £12million purse for his 2002 win over Tyson, which drew a then-record 1.95million pay-per-view buys and earned him an overall sum of £40million, while raking in £12million for his successful rematch against Evander Holyfield three years earlier.

His first bout with Holyfield, a contentious split-decision draw, saw him receive a £7million purse.

Lewis now works as a pundit for FOX Sports, commentating on Premier Boxing Champions fights out in the States, and has also enjoyed an analyst role with HBO in the past.

He is said to be involved in several unnamed business ventures, along with a number of philanthropy and charitable projects.

Tyson’s net worth is reportedly a lot lower than Lewis’, with Celebrity Net Worth estimating it at just over £7million.

The boxing icon – who remains the youngest world heavyweight champion in history at 20 years, four months and 22 days old – gained huge wealth before falling on hard times later in his career.

‘Iron’ Mike is said to have swept up just under £400million in fight purses, meaning he was able to splash the cash on a multi-million dollar car collection and luxury mansions in Nevada, Los Angeles and Connecticut.

In 2003 he filed for bankruptcy and sold one of his mansions to rapper 50 Cent for £3.3million, with his debts rising to an estimated £17million before his recent financial recovery.
