Mike Tyson claims he will fight Lennox Lewis in September

Mike Tyson claims he will fight Lennox Lewis, 55, in an epic rematch against his old foe in September as the 54-year-old heavyweight steps up plans for lucrative exhibition bouts after returning to the ring last year

Mike Tyson has claimed he will take on Lennox Lewis in September in what would be a huge rematch between the former heavyweight stars.

Tyson made his highly-anticipated return to the ring against Roy Jones Jr last year and has since declared his interest in setting up further lucrative exhibition bouts – including against old foe Evander Holyfield.

But speaking to TMZ, Iron Mike said he had agreed to take on undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis later on this year, simply saying: ‘I’m gonna fight Lennox Lewis. September.’

Iron Mike suffered a stoppage defeat against the Brit when they last fought back in 2002

The two-time heavyweight world champion was knocked out by Lewis when they last fought in 2002, with the British star handing the American his fourth career defeat while confirming his name as the top fighter in the world.

The Baddest Man on the Planet famously delivered a boastful rant before he fought Lewis, bizarrely claiming he wanted to ‘eat his children’ and declaring himself as ‘impregnable’ and ‘the best ever’.

‘I’m the best ever,’ he said before the fight. ‘I’m the most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there’s ever been.

The British veteran reigned as the undisputed champion during a hugely successful career

‘There’s no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No, I’m the best ever.

‘There’s never been anybody as ruthless. There’s no one like me. There’s no one that can match me.

‘My style is impetuous, my defence is impregnable, and I’m just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children’

In February Lewis said he would consider fighting Tyson again after watching him make his return to the ring against Jones Jr, but only if ‘the public wanted it’.

‘If the public wanted it then we would probably talk,’ he told TMZ. I don’t know. I don’t really have nothing pushing me in the ring right now.

Tyson has already made his return to boxing after taking on Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout

The American veteran impressed with his physique and style during his clash against Jones Jr

‘People would love to see that fight but I don’t know.’

Tyson, who finished his career with a record of 50 victories and six defeats, had been heavily linked with another rematch against Holyfield – whose ear he famously bit during their second fight in Las Vegas in 1997.

Holyfield is planning to follow Tyson by making his return to the game and is said to be preparing to face Kevin McBride in June for an eight-round exhibition fight. McBride handed Tyson a KO defeat in the last bout of his professional career.

Tyson earned plaudits from fans after his comeback fight against Jones Jr in November, with many praising him for looking in great physical condition and landing some impressive shots.

He has also been linked with a rematch against Evander Holyfield (L), who is also planning his comeback to the sport this year

This year he has added fuel to the fire that he could become involved in further exhibitions and ambitiously targeted fights against both Lewis and Holyfield.

‘I want Holyfield and I want Lennox Lewis this year,’ Tyson revealed on his Hotboxin’ Podcast.

‘I want both of them, I want to get them both this year. I also want to box an exhibition with Tyson Fury.

‘If I do that – even if I can get those two guys [Lewis and Holyfield], I’ll say, “This is a wrap, I’m just gonna live life”.

‘And that’s just exhibitions. I’m gonna break all my professional true records with exhibitions.’
