UFCs first-ever female commentator defends Khabib over ring girl comments
The first ever UFC female commentator has defended Khabib Nurmagomedov over his comments regarding ring girls.
Colour commentator and reporter Laura Sanko responded to the fighter’s claims that ring girls are the most “useless people' in the sport.”
The 38-year-old said via LowKickMMA: "I think it's a cultural difference.
"I think we have to accept that that is a very valid opinion for him to have and it's his personal opinion and he was talking about why he's not gonna have them at his promotion… that's within his right to do so…
"If he had specifically attacked our ring card girls or any ring card girl by name, I definitely would jump to their defense.”
She added: "I think it's more the idea for him, it's not just something culturally that he finds valid and I respect that about him.
"I think he's perfectly fine and within his rights to talk about that."
Last month, Khabib, 32, gave his honest assessment on the role of ring girls in the sport.
“Look, I don't want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts," the former champion exclaimed.
"What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen. I realise that is a history. History knows many mistakes.
"We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in the history, it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion."

At the beginning of the month the former MMA fighter made history when she became the first woman to serve on the UFC commentary team.
Sanko provides her wealth of knowledge on Dana White’s Contender Series, which airs on ESPN+.
The reporter is very pleased to have made history and always knew she had what it took to thrive in the role.
“I always believed I could be the one to do it,” says Sanko.

“Three years ago, I told [UFC president] Dana White that I was going to be the first female color commentator in the history of the UFC.
“I knew I was going to do this. Even when we first met when I was working for Invicta, I said to him, ‘I’d like to work for you one day.’”
She added: “I still remember Dana saying, ‘Keep working hard and we’ll keep an eye on you.’ I’m grateful Dana has this belief in me.
“I had zero doubt about what would happen if I was given the chance, I just didn’t know if this door would ever open for me.”
