Timo Glock believes Red Bull will need to hold ‘internal discussions’ once again to try and fix any issues between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez following the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It already looks set to be a two-way fight between the two Red Bull drivers for the 2023 world championship after just two races.

Aston Martin, Ferrari and Mercedes already seem too far away in their development and that was evident last weekend. Despite temporarily losing the lead at the start of the race, Perez dominated at the front to eventually take the chequered flag with ease.

His task was made a bit simpler with Verstappen’s driveshaft failure in qualifying limiting him to 15th on the grid. The Dutchman was still able to work his way through the rest of the pack to take second, finishing little over five seconds behind his team-mate.

But there was some contention on the final lap when Verstappen appeared to push for the green light to go for the fastest lap, previously held by Perez. By taking the fastest lap away from his team-mate, Verstappen ensured that he stayed on top of the world championship standings.

Perez appeared far from impressed after the race, confronting Verstappen in the cooldown room and calling for more clarity from the Red Bull pit wall to the media. It’s the latest sign of a strain in the relationship between the two Red Bull drivers following the controversy from the Brazilian Grand Prix last year.

And Glock believes the brewing anger between the team-mates will soon lead to a “fight”. “Verstappen’s fastest lap, which he grabbed on the last lap, will again lead to internal discussions,” he wrote for Sky Germany.

“Sergio Perez will not get involved in any topic in which he will have to support Verstappen in the future. I’m sure of that because the Mexican sees his chance to fight for the title with Verstappen.

“This will lead to a fight between the two. We can expect that there will be friction. Red Bull is certainly already aware of this. Perez showed that he is strong and has very good pace in the race.

“At the same time, Verstappen is someone who doesn’t allow himself to be told and does what he thinks is right. The team can say whatever it wants.”
