Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari could be on again after it emerged that Sebastian Vettel will end his time with the Italian giants at the end of the 2020 season.
Vettel and Ferrari had been in talks over extending their partnership for a number of months but they have failed to agree terms on a new deal.
Vettel joined Ferrari back in 2015 but he has been unable to replicate the form from his Red Bull days, where he was crowned world champion on four occasions.
Sebastian Vettel will leave Ferrari at the end of the 2020 season, it has been confirmed
‘My relationship with Scuderia Ferrari will finish at the end of 2020,’ Vettel told Formula One’s official website. ‘In order to get the best possible results in this sport, it’s vital for all parties to work in perfect harmony.
‘The team and I have realised that there is no longer a common desire to stay together beyond the end of this season. Financial matters have played no part in this joint decision. That’s not the way I think when it comes to making certain choices and it never will be.
‘What’s been happening in these past few months has led many of us to reflect on what are our real priorities in life. One needs to use one’s imagination and to adopt a new approach to a situation that has changed. I myself will take the time I need to reflect on what really matters when it comes to my future.

‘Scuderia Ferrari occupies a special place in Formula 1 and I hope it gets all the success it deserves. Finally, I want to thank the whole Ferrari family and above all its “tifosi” all around the world, for the support they have given me over the years.
‘My immediate goal is to finish my long stint with Ferrari, in the hope of sharing some more beautiful moments together, to add to all those we have enjoyed so far.’
The news regarding Vettel – who was outclassed by Charles Leclerc last season at Ferrari – could potentially reopen the door for Hamilton to make the move to the F1 giants.
Back in December, Ferrari admitted that they had held talks with the six-time world champion regarding a potential switch after his Mercedes contract ends in 2021.

Hamilton however, since played that talk down, but his own future still remains in the balance.
Hamilton stressed that any potential new contract was not about money and that he was committed to the Silver Arrows.
However, his own future could be tied to Mercedes’ boss Toto Wolff, whose contract expires in December.
Wolff’s position at Mercedes is currently up in the air after he strengthened his financial ties with Aston Martin, who will take over Racing Point in 2021.
