‘Coaches will be looking over their shoulder’: Green backed for quick return, with Broncos ‘obvious fit’

Paul Green’s decision to leave the North Queensland Cowboys will have a flow-on effect, with under pressure coaches now on high alert they could be replaced by the premiership winner.

That’s the opinion of leading journalist Brent Read, who believes Green will be coaching in the NRL again soon.

Green and the Cowboys mutually agreed to part ways on Monday after the Cowboys 22-10 loss to the Panthers in Round 10.

Panthers down Cowboys

NRL: The Penrith Panthers defeated the North Queensland Cowboys 22-10 in their round 10 clash.

Green is a highly-regarded coach, who took the Cowboys to two Grand Finals in 2015, their maiden title win over the Broncos and a 2017 loss to the Storm.

Read believes it is only a matter of time before Green is a head coach in the NRL again, which will be making a number of under pressure mentors nervous.

Green has already been linked to the Sharks this season as a potential replacement for John Morris, although Cronulla have improved in recent weeks.

Green played for the Sharks and still has an affiliation with the club.

Meanwhile Danny Weidler believes the Broncos could be an ideal landing spot if Anthony Seibold can turn things around at Red Hill in a hurry.

“Paul Green leaves Cowboys. Mutual agreement. My information club decided to go in another direction after poor results,” Weidler tweeted.

“Told last week. No contact with rival clubs as yet. Broncos are an obvious fit.”

Other coaches that will be under pressure to retain their jobs depending on how the rest of the season goes are Todd Payten at the Warriors and Paul McGregor at the Dragons.

So Paul Green to the Broncos, yeah?
