Sale and England have suffered a major blow after Manu Tuilagi was ruled out for six months with a torn Achilles.
The centre suffered the injury during Tuesday’s victory over Northampton and will undergo surgery next week.
The powerhouse is going to be sidelined for England’s final Six Nations clash against Italy, which was postponed by the coronavirus crisis, and all of the autumn internationals that follow. He is also expected to miss next year’s Six Nations competition.

Tuilagi was helped off the pitch against Saints and it immediately looked like a serious blow.
He cut a miserable figure on crutches watching from the stands and now the news has been confirmed that the former Leicester Tiger need to go under the knife yet again.
Tuilagi’s career has been blighted by injury and this setback will remove a huge attacking threat for both Eddie Jones with England and Steve Diamond at Sale.
England return to action at Twickenham on October 25 in what will be England’s first outing since beating Wales at home back in March.
Tuilagi had become an integral part of the team again for his international side and started the World Cup final England lost to South Africa last year.
Jones has signalled his intent to put out a strong team for the Six Nations finale against Italy in Rome on October 31 and the Autumn Nations Cup, featuring pool games against Georgia, Ireland and Wales, before a finals-day fixture.
Tuilagi would no doubt have been a part of that but now misses out.
Sale director of rugby Diamond, said: ‘Hopefully the surgery will be next week. It’s a torn Achilles. He’ll be out for six months. It’s brutal what we’re playing at the minute,’ Diamond said.

Eddie Jones will be without his most powerful ball-carrying back for the next six months
‘Dan Biggar fell on him, so it was an accident. These things happen.
‘I think it might have been of a jinx me saying before the game that we’ve got nine out of nine games out of him and boom, that happens. So I’ll keep my trap shut in future.
‘Manu will be a loss to England and Sale. Rather selfishly, after this game and the play-offs we’ll probably wouldn’t have seen Manu until April with the England commitments and EPS rest periods.’
