5 things we noticed as Man Utd stars train ahead of the Premier League returning
Paul Pogba lead a Manchester United training session on Tuesday, as the Red Devils squad prepare for the return of the Premier League.
The France World Cup winner was joined by Anthony Martial, Andreas Pereira, and Victor Lindelof in a local park, as the group shook off their cobwebs.
Project Restart is still ironing out the creases ahead of the Premier League returning, but the government confirmed this week that professional sport will be able to take place from June 1. Project Restart is aiming for a June 12 return.
The United squad were competing for a top-four finish prior to the coronavirus pandemic temporarily suspending the campaign, and are keen to finish strongly to ensure Champions League football next season.
Here's five things we noticed from the makeshift training session.
1. Paul Pogba keeps a low profile
It's hard for Pogba to keep a low profile at the best of times, not least when he's training in public alongside other Manchester United superstars.
So it's not surprising the Frenchman did his best to obscure his face on Tuesday.
His disguise would soon slip though as he got into the session.
2. Frenchman looking focused
Pogba's future has been discussed at length in recent weeks, what with the introduction of Bruno Fernandes at Man United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident the duo will complement each other. He told Sky Sports: "Good players can always play together, so definitely, they can – it's a big yes.
"I think it's exciting… we do have an exciting squad."
And it seems Pogba is on the same wavelength as his boss. The Frenchman looked focused during the session, keen to hit the ground running when he returns.
3. Dressed for the occasion
Footballers are usually snapped decked out in their club's attire.
It's unusual to see them training in whatever they dug out the wardrobe that morning, just like the rest of us would.
Pereira did his bit to represent the Old Trafford club, and wore United socks (although he did wear Valencia shorts!), but the rest of the United players are as inconspicuous as they can be.
4. Paul Pogba's ankle seems OK
Pogba hasn't enjoyed the best season at United.
The France international has been out for the Red Devils since Boxing Day, after he suffered a severe ankle injury.
Pogba needed surgery on his ankle before an extensive rehabilitation period.
The midfielder was meant to return to training with the first team in the same week Carrington closed its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Pogba has therefore been training by himself behind closed doors, but it seems his ankle has been holding up well.
He was running hard on it on Tuesday, and looks set to return as soon as he's able to.
5. Lockdown has taken its toll
A month and a half away from the club's training ground, coaches and professional matches was always going to take its toll on the players' fitness.
