Alexis Sanchez to be handed fresh Man Utd escape route after Inter loan ends
Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez is reportedly set for another loan spell in Italy despite struggling for form and fitness with Inter Milan this season.
The Chile forward has made only 15 appearances for the Serie A giants after sustaining an ankle injury and he has scored just once.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to offload the 31-year-old, who moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January 2018 in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and is paid an eye-watering £505,000 per week.
And it looks as though Sanchez has been handed a lifeline by Roma and could link up with fellow United player Chris Smalling at Stadio Olimpico during a second loan spell in Italy.
Roma were keen to sign Sanchez on loan last summer but were beaten to his signature by Inter, according to Sky Sports via Goal, but they now look set to land their man.
Given Inter are unlikely to extend Sanchez's stay and Solskjaer's desire to send the former Barcelona man out on loan again, Roma are in a strong position.
Their relationship with United has been strengthened by the impressive displays of on-loan defender Smalling – who has shone in the Italian capital.
Smalling, who still hopes to make England's squad for the Euros next summer, has made 28 appearances for Roma and scored twice to guide the club to fifth in Serie A.
Also on loan at Roma is Mkhitaryan, who like Smalling has impressed manager Paolo Fonseca thanks to his tally of six goals and four assists in 20 appearances.
