Arsenal agree Xhaka deal, Onana wins appeal and youngster offered new contract
Arsenal are expected to have a huge summer transfer window after Mikel Arteta’s side failed to qualify for Europe for the first time since the 1995/96 season.
The Gunners’ disappointing campaign culminated in a Europa League semi-final loss to former boss Unai Emery, who led his Villarreal side to victory in the competition.
They had a poor season offensively with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang uncharacteristically failing to show up as well as a persistent lack of creativity in midfield.
And now with big players like Alexandre Lacazette nearing the end of their contracts and the need to revamp the squad on a limited budget, Arteta and technical director Edu have their hands full.
Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Arsenal transfer news below.
Xhaka to join Mourinho at Roma
Arsenal's central-midfield veteran Granit Xhaka will move to AS Roma after five seasons at the North London club.
Football.London report the 28-year-old has agreed a five year deal with Roma for a fee in the region of €18-20million (£15-17million).
Xhaka will join ex-Spurs coach Jose Mourinho at Roma after a controversial and at-times fiery Arsenal career.
Fans will have mixed feelings about the transfer, on one hand accepting that the player didn’t meet the standards required and on the other worrying about a replacement.
Onana’s ban reduced to nine months
Arsenal transfer target Andre Onana’s doping ban has been reduced to nine months, increasing the likelihood of a move to the Gunners this summer.
The Ajax goalkeeper will be available to play from November 3 rd onwards while being allowed to train on September 3 rd .
The Court of Arbitration of Sport reportedly found UEFA’s original 12-month punishment to be ‘disproportionate and excessive’.
Eddie Nketiah offered contract extension
Striker Eddie Nketiah has been offered a new contract with Arteta looking to protect the club’s investment whilst buying time for the player to potentially come good.
The 22-year-old has 12 months left on his current deal and The Athletic have reported Arsenal would be open to tying the striker down and sending him on loan to increase his value next season.
Nketiah could refuse the offer if his role in the side remains unclear, despite the Gunners not looking to purchase any new strikers.
