Arsenal blow as Inter 'offer Eriksen to Real and Atletico Madrid'

Arsenal dealt blow in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen as Inter Milan ‘offer the Danish midfielder to both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid’ as Antonio Conte looks to shift the unwanted star out of the San Siro this month

  • Christian Eriksen looks set to end his stay at Inter Milan after just 12 months
  • The 28-year-old only arrived at the San Siro from Tottenham in January last year
  • But he has struggled to settle in and form a relationship with Antonio Conte
  • Arsenal have been labelled as among the frontrunners for the Danish playmaker

Christian Eriksen has reportedly been offered to both Real and Atletico Madrid as he looks get set to Inter Milan this month, just a year after joining from Tottenham.

The Dane was seen as a bargain at a cut-price £17m when he arrived in Italy just under 12 months ago, but he has struggled to fit in under Antonio Conte.

With the Spanish giants seemingly in pole position to sign the playmaker, according to Marca, it deals a bitter blow to Arsenal’s chances of swooping for their rivals’ former star man.

Mikel Arteta’s men were thought to be among the frontrunners for the 28-year-old, but it appears the Madrid giants have stolen a march on the Gunners.

Eriksen is primed to leave after chief executive Giuseppe Marotta confirmed the Dane is up for sale just last month.

Marotta spoke to Sky Sports about the season so far and Inter’s plans for the January transfer window when he gave the clearest indication yet that Eriksen has no future in Milan.

‘We’ve been very clear many times that there are players on the so-called transfer list, these are players who want to play more regularly, and the club is ready to make them happy and find replacements,’ he said.

The Dane has made only 11 appearances in a difficult second season under the Italian boss

Mikel Arteta had been reportedly looking at Eriksen to fix Arsenal’s creative issues

‘Eriksen is on the transfer list, Piero Ausilio confirmed as much. He has struggled to settle into the squad, he is not functional to the squad.’

Eriksen has scored only four and created just three goals in 38 appearances under Conte, who he has struggled to build a relationship with.

Last month reports in the Italian press suggested that Arsenal were ‘looking at’ the Dane to solve their creative issues in front of goal.

Arteta’s men have since found form, however, with three back-to-back wins that have turned their fortunes around in the Premier League.

PSG have also been mentioned as an interested party, having this weekend unveiled Eriksen’s former boss at Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino, as their new manager.
