Arsenal fans make Emery demand after latest defeat compounds Arteta’s misery

Arsenal fans have been reacting to a tweet by former boss Unai Emery, who has been doing an impressive job in La Liga with Villarreal.

They are currently sat fourth in the table and have lost just one league game all season, a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona back in September.

Emery was sacked by Arsenal last November and replaced by current boss Mikel Arteta in December but, after an initially promising end to the season, Arteta's reign is coming under intense scrutiny.

The Gunners have had a woeful start to the season and are just four points off the relegation zone, having failed to win any of their last seven league games.

After the latest poor result, a 2-1 defeat to Everton, Arsenal fans began reacting to a message from Emery about Villarreal's 3-1 win over Osasuna.

"How good it is to win again in the League", Emery wrote. "The players and their fans deserve it. Have a good Sunday !!!

"What a joy to win back in the @LaLiga. The players, especially @Iborra_Vicente, and the fans deserve it. Have a good Sunday !!! Come on @VillarrealCF!"

  • Mohamed Elneny and Arsenal analyst 'clashed and went berserk' in loss at Everton

In response, one Arsenal fan wrote: "Mans trolling @Arsenal I’m here for it"

"The timing lmfaoooo", added another supporter.

"Unai doing wonders in la liga so that we hate Arteta even more and regret sacking him, wow", wrote a third.

"Emery 4 points from the top in la liga. Gazidis top of the table with Milan. Mislintat in 7th with Stuttgart who were promoted in 19/20. Arguably all of them failed maybe not Mislintat but why are they all flying elsewhere?" questioned another.

Arteta has been publicly backed by Arsenal's hierarchy and the Spaniard was asked whether his position could become untenable if they continue their poor form.

"I understand that," Arteta replied. "My energy and my focus is only on getting the team out of that situation, maintaining the spirit on the team and the fight the boys showed every time they go on the pitch. You can see that, you cannot deny that.

"Obviously, again, the results – there is no question about that, it's not good enough and it's not acceptable for the standards of this football club and this is the challenge and the fight that we are against."
