Arsenal hope to agree Mesut Ozil exit this week as Gunners also set to sell one more star

Arsenal: Arteta previews Crystal Palace clash

Mesut Ozil is widely expected to join Fenerbahce this month after being axed by Mikel Arteta this season. The German is expected to have his contract terminated by the Gunners, but talks are taking some time to play out given the situation.

Arsenal are reportedly hoping to complete the exit of Mesut Ozil exit this week, with another current first team player also on the chopping block.

Ozil is expected to join Fenerbahce this month after being axed by Mikel Arteta.

The German and Arteta have admitted that talks are currently ongoing over Ozil’s exit.

And according to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners want him gone as soon as the end of the week.

Arsenal are currently debating how best to go about terminating Ozil’s contract, which is worth £350,000-a-week.

The Gunners know that Fenerbahce will be unable to offer the playmaker as much as they have been, so will be hoping to come to some kind of agreement.

Their priority is getting Ozil off their own wage bill and freeing up cash to bring a player in though, and that is why Romano claims his departure will be sealed over the coming days.

Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut hinted that his client was very keen on a switch to Fenerbahce, but admitted that it was a tricky process given his contract situation.

“Mesut Ozil can now meet with any club he wants, sign a contract,” Sogut told beIN SPORTS.

“Whatever is best for Mesut. Mesut only lacks match fitness. There is no training lacking. Mesut is fit for now. Everyone knows that Mesut is from Fenerbahce.

“He announced it yesterday. Mesut is not just a football player. Mesut is Fenerbahce.

“He always said that if he came to Turkey, he would only play for Fenerbahce. I think it is very important that Mesut comes not only as a footballer but also as a lover of Fenerbahce.

“There is a process at the moment. We can’t say it’s over until we’ve signed it in the process. I hope so.”

Meanwhile, Romano also claims that Greek defender Sokratis is also seeking a new club this month after being outcasted by Arteta.

It does not seem clear where he will head to, with several clubs across Europe said to be interested.
