Arsenal transfer round-up as Juventus eye a move for Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal continue to be linked with a number of players, despite the departure of head of football Raul Sanllehi, with a handful of longer-term targets remaining on the club’s radar.

The Gunners have already sent a number of squad players out on loan, but are yet to make any senior signings save for the decisions to turn Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari’s loan deals into permanent moves and the arrival of Willian on a free.

Here’s the latest from around Europe as manager Mikel Arteta looks to get the additions he needs to build a squad capable of improving on last season’s underwhelming league finish, including updates on some familiar names.

Arsenal remain favourites for Gabriel as suitors drop out of race

Arsenal are going head to head with Napoli for the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes after Manchester United and Everton dropped out of the running, according to reports in France.

La Voix du Nord (via Sport Witness) has reiterated that the London club remain favourites for the defender, who is coming off the back of a breakout season at Lille.

The publication claims all four named clubs met Lille’s demands for the player, who is expected to fetch a fee in the region of €30m, but Arsenal and Napoli are reportedly prepared to offer higher wages.

It has already been a busy summer for Lille, who have brought in players such as Jonathan David and Angel Gomes, while also selling Victor Osimhen to Napoli.

Lacazette is part of a stacked shortlist as Juventus look for new striker

Juventus are understood to be looking for a younger addition to their strikeforce, and Alexandre Lacazette is one of the names being mentioned.

According to Sky in Italy, the Frenchman is part of a shortlist also including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raul Jimenez as the Italian club look to add to a front-line currently headlined by thirtysomethings Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain.

The Bianconeri are also reportedly considering a swoop to bring Alvaro Morata back to Turin from Atletico Madrid, while Serie A forwards Arek Milik and Duvan Zapata have also been mentioned.

While there are no suggestions Ronaldo will be leaving, the same can’t be said of Higuain. The Argentina frontman has just one year left on his current deal, and scored just eight league goals last season after returning from a loan spell at Chelsea.

Gunners bring in teenage midfielder from Championship

Arsenal have continued their academy recruitment drive with the signing of Tim Akinola, a teenage midfielder most recently on the books of Huddersfield Town.

According to The Athletic, the youngster has been signed without a trial after Arsenal were impressed by video footage.

Akinola joined Huddersfield’s academy in the summer of 2019, with Terriers academy manager Leigh Bromby praising his “work ethic and attitude to win the ball back in the middle of midfield” upon the youngster’s arrival from Lincoln City.

While the 19-year-old left Huddersfield without playing a senior game, he will go straight into Arsenal’s academy along with fellow summer recruit George Lewis.

Norwegian winger Lewis, who impressed on trial, joined from Fram Larvik in his country’s third tier.

Both moves were driven by Arsenal’s head of talent ID department Lee Herron and academy manager Pet Mertesacker, the Athletic reports.
