Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the Gunners to make a move for Gini Wijnaldum amid the Dutchman’s struggles at PSG.

Wijnaldum joined the Parisian side last summer on a free transfer after his contract at Liverpool expired but has already been linked with an early exit.

The 31-year-old has struggled to cement his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s side and is believed to be open to a return to the Premier League.

The midfielder’s former club Newcastle and Arsenal are both thought to be interested in a move for the Dutchman, according to The Mirror.

Petit has called for his former side to sign Wijnaludm as he believes the move could benefit both player and cub.

Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in reinforcements to his engine room after allowing Ainsley Maitland-Niles join Roma, while the move could bring an end to Wijnaldum’s Ligue 1 misery.

Ex-Gunner Emmanuel Petit (pictured) believes the move would benefit both player and club

‘When he scored two goals [against RB Leipzig] in the Champions League last November, I was at the stadium that night and I thought it could be the perfect game for him to properly start his season with Paris Saint-Germain,’ Petit told Bookmakers.co.uk.

‘But, he is struggling and he is quite isolated in the PSG dressing room.’

‘He doesn’t have the relationship with his teammates that he had when he was with Liverpool,’ Petit added.

Mikel Arteta could look for reinforcements after Ainsley Maitland-Niles joined AS Roma on loan

‘He seems to be missing that kind of affection, and the competition is very high at PSG.

‘We all know the quality that Wijnaldum possesses, he was a top player at Liverpool, so maybe a return to the Premier League could be something good for him.’

During his time at Liverpool, Wijnaldum made 237 appearances and helped them win the Premier League and the Champions League.
