You could say Arsenal were pretty toothless after failing to find the back of the net in their goalless draw at Brighton, and so too – it turns out – was Gabriel Magalhaes.
Incredibly, for the second time in a row against the Seagulls, the Brazilian defender ended up losing a tooth – this time after a challenge with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez during the 0-0 draw at the AMEX Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s men were unable to add to their four-match winning spree against the impressive hosts, who were unlucky to walk away without three points – but it was Garbriel who walked away without one of his teeth.

The Brazilian was seen looking for a remnant of the tooth after full time at the AMEX
His team-mates poked fun at him in May as they searched for his tooth on the Emirates turf after a 2-0 win over Brighton
After the heavy challenge with Sanchez in the second half, Magalhaes noticed he had lost a chunk of his tooth and gave it to Arsenal coach Shad Forsythe on the touchline, but was still looking for another piece of it at full time.
He was seen scouring the AMEX turf looking for the other remnant after the full time whistle, but can’t have had too much luck at the rain-soaked stadium as he trodded round with his hood up.
As a handful of Arsenal fans pointed out, this is not the first time Gabriel has lost a tooth since joining the club – and it’s not the first time it’s happened against Brighton.
In their 2-0 win over Graham Potter’s side in May this year to round off the 2020-21 season, Gabriel also saw one of his teeth knocked out – and he had roped in his team-mates to conduct a a search of the Emirates pitch to look for it.
The Brazilian had assured fans that he had found the tooth on social media after that game
Luckily he did find it – thanks to help from coaches and groundsmen – after Willian, Nicolas Pepe and Thomas Partey were left in fits of laughter at the situation.
The £27million signing posted a selfie on Instagram after that game, writing: ‘Don’t worry my fiends, I found my tooth.’
Fans couldn’t resist the temptation to poke fun at Gabriel’s incredible misfortune, with one joking that he had lost more teeth than Jadon Sancho had registered goal involvements for Man United.
Another said: ‘Nah I’m actually screaming. Didn’t Gabriel lose a tooth against Brighton, not even six months ago?! How do you lose a tooth against the same team, twice?!’
One wrote: ‘Gabriel losing his tooth against Brighton? No wonder we delivered a toothless performance.’
