Aston Villa’s Alisha Leishmann replies to tennis ace’s cheeky Instagram message

Aston Villa forward Alisha Leishmann has responded to a cheeky message sent to her by Greek tennis star Petros Tsitsipas on Instagram.

Blonde bombshell Leishmann enjoyed a knock-up with her team-mates while away on international duty with Switzerland earlier in the week and shared a couple of photos with her near 12 million Instagram followers.

This caught the eye of Tsitsipas, who reached out to the footballer in the comments section, writing: "Let's play mixed [doubles]?" adding a tennis ball emoji and eyes emoji.

Leishmann took the bait and wrote back: "Let's go," with a laughing face and tennis racquet emoji added.

The Switzerland international, who used to date Villa men's star Douglas Luiz, has built up one heck of a social media following, with sizeable fanbases on both Twitter and TikTok to add to her staggering Instagram total.

But the 24-year-old insists she is much more than a social media personality and says she believes she can use her platform to help promote women’s football.

"England probably is the picture everyone should look at because I don’t think in other countries it increased that much," Lehmann told talkSPORT.

“In Switzerland, for example, everyone’s still working, 90 per cent probably still work … women’s football is always second-class. I don’t think you’ll ever be first class because I think a lot of people still think that men’s football is the first priority.

"They don’t think about women’s football and I think that’s a big problem. Now social media is really helpful because people actually see, oh, we play football, we can play football."

Tsitsipas, meanwhile, is an up-coming-star who achieved a career-best Grand Slam finish at the Australian Open last month after reaching the second round of the tournament.

He'll be looking to follow in the footsteps of his elder brother, Stefanos, who reached the final before being beaten in straight sets by Novak Djokovic.
