Atletico Madrid 2-0 Rayo Vallecano: Angel Correa’s brace sees Spanish giants leapfrog high-flying newly-promoted side to go fourth in LaLiga

  • Rayo Vallecano went to the Spanish capital to face Atletico Madrid on Sunday
  • Angel Correa pushed the hosts ahead, striking from inside the box on 28 minutes
  • He fired a second after the break, finishing a tap-in from Thomas Lemar’s cross  
  • Atletico move back into the LaLiga top-four with the victory in Madrid 

Angel Correa scored a double as Atletico Madrid eased by Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, holding off the threat of the storming newly-promoted side.

The Argentine stuck in either half, pouncing on a rebound after Yannick Carrasco cut inside cleverly, powering past the stranded keeper on 28 minutes. Correa followed-up by tapping-in Thomas Lemar’s cross.  

Rayo made a stunning start to the season but couldn’t trouble Atletico, even with Antoine Griezmann still sidelined through injury – as the stuttering Spanish champions leapfrogged back over the promoted side into fourth.
