Avram Glazer 'is planning to attend Man United's Carabao Cup final'

Avram Glazer ‘is planning to make a rare appearance at Man United’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley’… less than 10 days after the club received bids from Qatari Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos

Avram Glazer is reportedly planning to make a rare appearance by attending Manchester United’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday.

It comes amid the Glazer family potentially selling the club after a controversial, debt-burdening 18 years at Old Trafford.

Glazer’s presence at Wembley would no doubt further stir up tension among United fans – who have continued to be vocal in their anger towards the club’s owners even since talk around a sale first began.

The club received indicative offers last Friday, with chemicals firm INEOS, led by long-time fan Jim Ratcliffe, and Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani confirming they had made bids.

Glazer – who has not appeared at a United game since the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton on the opening day of the season – wants to watch the club attempt to win a trophy for the first time in six years, according to The Athletic.

During his last outing at United, he and his brother Bryan were met with big banners that read: ‘Fight greed. Fight for United. Fight Glazers’ and ‘We want our club back.’

Banners with United’s traditional gold and green colours and anti-Glazer chants have continued to be unveiled and heard in the Old Trafford stands in recent weeks.

It is incredibly rare for the US owners to make appearances for United games – and it would no doubt take the attention off a huge day for both clubs at Wembley.

When the Glazers put the club up for sale in November, it was met with relief from United fans who have always had a distaste for the US family.

While it was understood that the Glazers search for investment in the club would result in a full sale, there has been recent speculation that the family may not relinquish control after all because the submitted proposals made are lower than the £6bn that Raine, the merchant bank holding the talks, had set.

In fact, earlier this week former Man United captain Gary Neville doubled down on his suspicions that the Glazers will stay after the club announced an increase on season ticket prices for the first time in 11 seasons.

Fans will be met with a five per cent increase on their season tickets for the 2023-24 season – amid ‘challenging’ match day cost hikes.

It has fuelled speculation over the Glazers’ intentions, with many questioning why they would suddenly hike the prices if they are leaving.

United legend Neville tweeted: ‘The increase to ticket prices at United is very odd! Why would a seller that’s leaving before the next season starts introduce something that has brought them more hate and they won’t benefit from!

‘Any new buyer would most likely freeze the price in year one to stay on side with fans. It does beg the question whether they are really going! I have my doubts with actions like this one!’
