Barcelona signing Sergino Dest suffers humiliating unveiling with skill attempts

New Barcelona signing Sergino Dest suffered a rather embarrassing unveiling after being put under the spotlight at the Nou Camp.

The American right-back was announced as Ronald Koeman’s latest addition this week, joining from Ajax for £23.5m.

But Dest didn’t get off to the smoothest start after being thrust in front of the cameras to perform some skills and give fans a taste of what’s to come.

However, he struggled to show any real flair initially, even failing to do some basic keepie uppies at one stage.

Dest did manage to salvage some pride though with an incredible flick manoeuvre as he left the pitch.

The USA international revealed he would be trying to follow in the footsteps of ex-Barca right-back Dani Alves, who was a member of the club during their most successful spell a few years ago.

"Dani Alves is someone to look up to," Dest said at his presentation. "I've watched a lot of videos of him on YouTube. I've learned a lot from him.

“I still have to learn more about him, because here at Barca there are a lot of his former team-mates, such as [Lionel] Messi.

“I think that my best position is as a wing-back, a right-back, and I hope to keep that spot.

"I want to be like Dani Alves, and I want to run up and down the wing. If I have to train more to be like him, then I will."

Dest also paid homage to club captain Lionel Messi, who he insisted he would do his best to help on the pitch.

"It will be amazing to play alongside the best player in the world," he added.

"I will do whatever is needed to help Messi and the entire team. It will be very exciting to get to know the best in the world."
