Brentford captain Pontus Jansson has hailed Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa for the impact he has had on his journey to the Premier League. The Swede jumped ship and left Elland Road for west London at the end of the 2018/19 season as he watching his former side storm their way to the Championship title.

Jansson then suffered Play-off final heartbreak at the hands of Fulham last year but this time around it Brentford’s day to remember.

Now he has cleared up his relationship with Bielsa and paid tribute to the ideas of the Argentine, which have made a different to Brentford’s approach, according to Jansson.

“That’s probably what’s made me proudest, I saw something in Brentford,” he told Sky Sports.

“I am so thankful to Marcelo Bielsa for what he taught me at Leeds, he gave me so much knowledge and I actually brought it here with me to Brentford.

“Brentford were so willing to listen to me and my ideas that I took from Bielsa.

“I thank him a lot because he is for me one of the best coaches in the world.

“People think that mine and his relationship is not the best but it is, it’s very good.

“I’m so thankful to him and I love Brentford so much but I must thank him and Leeds.”
