Caleta-Car transfer hint excites Liverpool fans as deal ‘not dead in the water’
Duje Caleta-Car has been linked with a move to Liverpool this deadline day.
The Reds identified the Croatian as a possible fix for their problems in defence, and had struck a deal with Marseille.
But the Ligue 1 side wanted to secure a replacement before letting the centre-back leave.
They were unable to do so on Sunday night, and despite the defender having a jet on stand by, pulled the plug on the deal.
Liverpool quickly turned their attention to Preston defender Ben Davies, and have agreed a deal in the region of £1.6million for the centre-back.
Davies is having his medical at Kirkby this Monday and is expected to be announced later in the afternoon.
Because Davies is signing for Liverpool, it seems that the Caleta-Car deal is dead in the water. But this may not be the case, according to reports from France.
France Football claims that Marseille chief Pablo Longoria is currently sifting through profiles of replacement centre-backs.
And if Longoria stumbles upon an appropriate candidate before the day is up he will give Caleta-Car the green light to join Liverpool.
Whether the Reds will still want to sign the defender by this point, having all-but already snapped by Davies, remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Caleta-Car's girlfriend has got Reds supporters exited by apparently dropping a transfer hint on social media.
Adriana Durdevic shared a video to her Instagram story overlaid with a song from famous Liverpool band The Beatles.
Fans have been sharing a clip of the Instagram video on Twitter and suggesting it's a hint that the centre-back is very keen on moving to Liverpool.
