Chelsea contract situation gives Man Utd boost in Jude Bellingham pursuit

Chelsea are closing in on tying Tino Anjorin down to a new contract at the club.

However, the knock-on effect could see Manchester United take the lead in the race for Birmingham wonderkid Jude Bellingham.

The Blues have been desperate for Anjorin to sign a new deal with his current terms expiring in the summer of 2021.

But the 18-year-old has held reservations over his route to the first-team, keeping him from putting pen to paper.

That fear was amplified when Chelsea became seriously interested in 16-year-old Bellingham.

The teenager is regarded as a generational talent and is being courted by United.

But his arrival at Stamford Bridge would put a major stumbling block on Anjorin's development with the two playing in the same position.

As a result, the youngster was waiting to see what would happen but F365 are reporting that he is set to sign a new deal.

That would indicate that Chelsea have reproached from signing Bellingham, handing United the initiative to go and complete the transfer.

The Red Devils do not just face competition from their Premier League rivals though, with Borussia Dortmund offering a better package than the Old Trafford outfit.

It comes with the expectation that Jadon Sancho will depart the Bundesliga side for the Premier League, of which both United and Chelsea are among the favourites.

As for Anjorin, it will be a major boost for Frank Lampard who handed the teenager his debut earlier this season against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

He went on to make his Premier League bow against Everton in a 4-0 win earlier this month.

The midfielder is regarded as a massive talent by coaches at Cobham.

Some have remarked that he is more developed and talented than Ruben Loftus-Cheek during his stage of growth in the reserves.

Lampard has based his tactics largely around players from the academy this season, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Mason Mount first-team regulars.

In total, the Englishman has given eight debuts out to academy aces – Anjorin, Mount, James, Billy Gilmour, Armando Broja, Marc Guehi, Tariq Lamptey and Ian Maatsen.
