Chelsea are expected to ask more questions of Sevilla in their pursuit of centre-back Jules Kounde with an improved bid in the next few hours, according to reports. The Frenchman has been linked with Stamford Bridge for the past few months, but the Spanish side haven proven themselves as tough negotiators, and the Blues have not yet done enough to see the deal through.
After featuring in the first two La Liga games of the season, Kounde reportedly asked to be left out of the squad on Saturday as rumours continue to circulate on his future.
Chelsea are the front-runners to sign him this summer, but everything points towards Sevilla holding out for a massive offer to prise away their star defender.
Manchester City tried and failed to sign Kounde last summer when their £50million bid was deemed too small.
As the 22-year-old has only improved since, it is almost certain that it would take a bigger fee than that to get the job done this time around.

The fact that Kounde’s old club, Bordeaux, will receive 15 per cent of the fee will also encourage Sevilla to eke every last drop out of Roman Abramovich’s transfer kitty.
Given Trevoh Chalobah’s unexpected breakthrough at the start of this season, it seemed as though Chelsea’s centre-back hunt may have been brushed under the carpet.
However, since Kurt Zouma sealed a £30m move to West Ham, a defensive vacancy lies in wait with Kounde’s name on it.
According to ABC Sevilla, Chelsea are expected to return to Sevilla with an improved offer over the next few hours.

As the reigning Champions League holders, Kounde is believed to be keen on a move to west London, but at 22-year-old he can afford to be patient if Sevilla do not want to play ball.
There is an obvious conflict of interest in the fact that the Spanish side are desperate to recoup the maximum fee from Kounde’s departure, while Chelsea will be wary about splashing the cash after spending £97.5m on Romelu Lukaku.
Even without him, Chelsea seem to be in a strong position to contend for the Premier League title after building up serious momentum under Thomas Tuchel.
After successive wins against Crystal Palace and Arsenal, the Blues will ultimately be pleased that they came away from Anfield with a point after Reece James was sent off before half-time.
However, many of the Premier League’s big-hitters are going above and beyond this summer, capped off by Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to Manchester United.
In light of that, Tuchel may feel as though Kounde is essential to make sure Chelsea are truly in the mix.
If they are looking to cut corners or save money in getting the deal done, they are dealing with the wrong team. A bid could be on its way within the next few hours which should demonstrate just how keen Chelsea are on the young Frenchman.
