Chelsea have identified their star man to inspire them to further success after an important change implimented since Thomas Tuchel was appointed manager, replacing Frank Lampard at the start of the year.

Kai Havertz has been given the highest of praise by his Chelsea teammate Matteo Kovacic, who feels that the German has changed in the last half a year to excel in English football.

The 22-year-old joined Chelsea in 2021 from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £70million, and won the Champions League in his first season at the club, scoring the crucial goal in the final.

It wasn’t as straight forward in the Premier League though, and the German found it difficult to settle in England during the first few months of his Chelsea career.

However, Havertz began to develop as Thomas Tuchel was appointed, and looks set to become a star at Chelsea.

Havertz made an incredible 150 appearances for Leverkusen by the age of 21, scoring 46 goals and registering 31 assists during his time with the German’s boyhood club, so it was no surprise that Chelsea paid the big money for him.

It was former manager Frank Lampard that signed the now 22-year-old, who struggled to find his feet under the former Chelsea legend, but fans are now starting to see the potential that Havertz has to offer.

Fellow teammate Kovacic recently spoke to about the evolution of Havertz, and said: “I’m very glad for him because I saw from the first training what kind of quality Kai has.

“It was a tough start for him, which is normal because he’s young coming to a new country.

“He just changed in the last half a year and has adapted now very well to the Premier League. He knows how to play in such a physical league, he showed great character and that’s what true champions do.

“They perform every week and he’s doing that now. He’s playing class football because he’s a class player.”

Havertz has already become iconic in Chelsea history with his Champions League winning goal against Manchester City in last seasons final, and his scoring start to this season proves there could be so much more to come from him during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The German seems to be improving every week under Tuchel and has flourished in a new role operating centrally in a creative area behind big centre-forward Romelu Lukaku, who’s presence has lifted Chelsea to that next level.

It feels like Havertz has so much more to give and the German could be a vital part of Chelsea’s future moving forward, and his aerial ability gives him a differential to most midfielders in his position.

It was from a header that Havertz scored a crucial goal against Liverpool at Anfield, as Chelsea held on for a draw with 10-men, and his intelligence when using his height to his advantage is a valuable asset to Tuchel’s side.

The one area for concern with Havertz is consistency, and with so many excellent options in Chelsea’s midfield it’s difficult to lay down a consistent starting role.

However, if Chelsea are to be the read deal this season, the role of Havertz will play a huge part, just like it did last season.
