Chelsea team news: Expected line-up vs Man Utd as Kepa Arrizabalaga ruled out

Chelsea face Manchester United in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford looking to kick-start their season after two successive draws. Edouard Mendy will continue to cement the No1 spot after impressing against Sevilla in the Champions League, with Kepa Arrizabalaga to miss Saturday’s game with a shoulder injury.

Mendy was preferred to Kepa for Tuesday’s clash against Sevilla, rewarding his manager’s faith by keeping a clean sheet after recovering from a thigh injury.

Kepa had filled in for Mendy against Southampton last weekend, but made a mistake in the lead-up to Che Adams’ equaliser as Chelsea were pegged back to a 3-3 draw having led by two goals early on.

Mendy would likely have kept his place anyway following the 0-0 draw with Sevilla – but there will no place in the squad for Petr Cech despite Kepa’s injury.

Lampard sprang a surprise when he named Chelsea’s technical director in his 25-man Premier League squad this week, with the 38-year-old club legend still training after his switch from Arsenal over the summer.

But the manager has confirmed it will be Willy Caballero on the bench as cover for Mendy, saying: “Petr Cech’s not coming [as a player].”

Apart from Kepa, Chelsea’s only other absentee is 19-year-old midfielder Billy Gilmour, who is not expected back until after the international break as he recovers from the knee injury he suffered towards the end of last season.

With Lampard pleased by the clean sheet against Sevilla after a disappointing defensive display against Southampton, the Chelsea boss is likely to stick with the same defence that started the Champions League opener.

That means another start for right-back Reece James, with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma as the centre-halves and Ben Chilwell at left-back.

The manager is likely to stick with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante in midfield, with Kai Havertz ahead of them in the No10 role behind striker Timo Werner.

Hakim Ziyech is pushing for a start after two substitute appearances since his £36million move from Ajax.

But he may have to again be content with a place on the bench, with Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic currently in favour on the wings.
