Chelsea urged to copy Liverpool transfer plans and use Klopp tactic with Frank Lampard
Chelsea: Should Lampard be given more time to succeed?
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is under pressure after spending over £220million in the summer but Liverpool legend John Barnes thinks Roman Abramovich should look at how the Reds have become title challengers under Jurgen Klopp.
Roman Abramovich is considering the future of the Blues hero with the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Massimiliano Allegri linked.
Chelsea spent over £200m in the summer on the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech.
Things haven’t gone to plan under Lampard though with Chelsea down in ninth and seven points off the table.
Liverpool legend Barnes thinks the Blues have taken the wrong approach on transfers and should choose a system rather than signing players.
Chelsea wages: Chilwell and Werner lead way ahead of Havertz as salaries emerge
He told BonusCodeBets: “Chelsea need to stop buying players because they’re the best and work on a system which is suited to the players coming in.
“If you have a philosophy and a system of how the club works and the team plays, then it is easier to sign players that fit.
“Lampard is new to Chelsea and management so is still working out the best way he wants his team to play.
“Jurgen Klopp had two years at Liverpool before he started to do well and he was allowed the time to do that.
“Lampard has only had one year in management and he needs time because it takes a while to develop a system.

“Players they’ve recently signed like Werner and Havertz are not having a slow start because of their attitude, but they will only come good for Chelsea once Lampard gets the template right.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Thiago Silva has told his team-mates they must do better after losing against Manchester City at the weekend.
“It was a match different from all the others we have lost recently,” he said.
“City have a good coach and have been playing together for four years. It’s not easy to play against them, but in a period in the first half we didn’t suffer enough to try and win the match. We conceded three goals in the blink of an eye.
“It’s the most difficult league in the world. You need to be attentive, to work harder, be stronger as a team, but I think we are a good team and the second half was much better. That was the one positive.
“We didn’t give up. We had more gusto and tried to play more. We saw that if we keep the ball well and play in the opposition half we can create space, but against a team with such a high level it’s very hard to come back.
“We have to do much better, work harder. A team like Chelsea can’t go a long time without a victory.”
