Dimitar Berbatov has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to succeed at Manchester United once more by following in the footsteps of club legend Ryan Giggs.
Ronaldo has moved back to Manchester United after a twelve-year hiatus, following a superb nine-year spell at Real Madrid after which three years at Juventus.
Leaving in 2009, Ronaldo left himself such a huge legacy at United that fans continued to adore him away from the club.
And upon his return to Old Trafford, he is expected to continue where he left off.
However, at 36 years old, Ronaldo will naturally start to lose his athleticism – although it will play into his hands, claims former team-mate Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov played with Ronaldo for one season in Manchester as the Red Devils enjoyed a fruitful spell by winning the Premier League and League Cup – only missing out on a treble with a loss to Barcelona in the Champions League final.
But having aged well and with talented young players around him, Berbatov believes Ronaldo must adjust his game in a similar fashion to how United icon Giggs did at the end of his career.
“I think because Ronaldo is 36 now he is not as fast as before,” Betfair Ambassador Berbatov said.
“I remember when Ryan Giggs was going into the late 30s and he wasn’t playing left-wing anymore, so he was adjusting his game and his position.

“In the case of Ronaldo, I think the centre-forward position is best for him at this very moment because he is good at finishing the attack; left foot, right foot, heading the ball.”
Ronaldo was the top-scorer in Serie A last season despite Juventus finishing fourth and he netted 101 times in 134 games overall in Turin.
And with 450 goals in 438 games for Real Madrid, the Portuguese star certainly knows where the net is.
Yet Berbatov says he doesn’t need to do any running as United’s young contingent run riot around him.

He reckons Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial will all help out the veteran Portugal captain.
The Bulgarian added: “When you have Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, Martial around you – all players who like to come from the outside and cut inside or make crosses – I think he will benefit from having the young players running around him and just supplying him to score.”
Dimitar Berbatov was speaking ahead of the launch of Betfair’s new VAR-Batov series, where the Premier League legend will be judging the unfair moments in football that affect so many punters.
Watch the first in the series on Betfair’s twitter next week.
