Manchester United have been told that they are the likeliest destination for Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and a deal could be struck if the Red Devils include Paul Pogba in exchange.
Ronaldo has continually been linked with a fairytale move back to United, where he first became one of the world’s best players after signing in 2003.
Bought as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon for £12million, the Portuguese star scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
He won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, a Champions League and an FA Cup during his six-year spell at Old Trafford before joining Real Madrid in a then-world record £90m transfer.
Twelve years after leaving United, Ronaldo is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract with Juventus and is considering his future following a disappointing campaign under Andrea Pirlo.

Juventus’ nine-year domination of Serie A was comfortably ended by Inter Milan and they finished a lowly fourth in the Italian top-flight.
Former Italy midfielder Pirlo was sacked last week and has since been replaced by the popular Massimiliano Allegri.
Ronaldo had a successful personal season and may choose to depart if he sees no sign of improvement, despite Allegri’s appointment.
He scored 29 goals in just 33 league matches and finished as Serie A’s top scorer. Romelu Lukaku came second with 24 goals despite playing in three more games.

Ronaldo has been linked with several clubs ahead of the transfer window but Italian agent Andrea D’Amico has said that United hold an advantage. However, they might need to include midfielder Pogba in a swap deal.
“My suggestion is that CR7 (Ronaldo) can finish his career elsewhere,” D’Amico said, as quoted by Italian newspaper Il Bianconero.
“Where? Not in Spain or Germany. PSG is also difficult.
“Going by exclusion, I would say Manchester United, maybe with the Ronaldo-Pogba exchange.”
Pogba has worked his way back into boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans having initially struggled when the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho in December 2018.
The Frenchman played in 29 Premier League games last term and scored three times. He assisted a further five goals.
He arrived from Juventus in 2016 for £90m.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer is understood to want a defender, a midfielder and a striker this summer, with Ronaldo fitting the profile of the latter.
“Of course, we’re planning as we normally do, that’s an ongoing process,” the Norwegian said following United’s final Premier League game against Wolves.
“We’re looking at the squad and I hope we’re going to strengthen with two or three players we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table.
“We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in. There is interest in a few others going out. You want to come out of the transfer window strengthened.
“It’s difficult to say, I can’t see too many outgoings.”
