Darren Fletcher details four standout Cristiano Ronaldo changes in Man Utd days

Darren Fletcher has indentified four key steps Cristiano Ronaldo took at  Man Utd to become a global superstar.

The Portuguese star's path to success has been well documented ever since impressing in a pre-season fixture against Sir Alex Ferguson's men for Sporting Lisbon in 2003.

Having turned the likes of Rio Ferdinand inside out in Lisbon, Ronaldo arrived in Manchester just six days later to complete a £12.5million transfer.

And despite initially struggling to get to grips with the Premier League, Ronaldo's tireless work ethic and expert guidance at United soon transformed him from raw talent into a true world beater.

Former teammate Fletcher told The Lockdown Tactics: "He [Ronaldo] was probably thankful of coming into that environment because it made him a winner.

"Ronaldo, as a young boy, he basically got chucked on a plane after a pre-season game because of how well he played against us and a week later he was in Manchester."

Looking back on pictures of Ronaldo at the time, it's almost difficult to comprehend it is the same person we have witnessed produce so much magic on the pitch since.

In particular the dramatic change in his physique, from scrawny youngster into muscle bound powerhouse.

But Fletcher identified four key steps the Portuguese star made upon his immediate arrival that helped first spark his improvement.

"He learnt English so quick, he was 18, he did extra training every day, he was the first player to go and get a personal chef," Fletcher said.
