Diogo Jota returning to Liverpool training this week to give Klopp timely boost

Diogo Jota is ready to return to training this week to give Liverpool a timely boost after their season hit a new low in defeat by Everton at the weekend.

The Portuguese forward is expected to take part in a full session on Wednesday but he is unlikely to feature against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Summer signing Jota is more likely to return to action against Chelsea next week.

Jota scored nine goals in 17 appearances after his £41m move from Wolves.

But he sustained a serious knee injury in the Champions League dead-rubber against FC Midtjylland in December.

The Reds have missed his potency in front of goal as back up to the front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp's side face a fight to finish in the top four after their fourth league defeat in a row at the weekend at the hands of the Toffees.

The defending champions have now lost seven games this season and trail fourth-placed West Ham by five points in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Liverpool should discover the full extent of Jordan Henderson's abductor injury later on Tuesday.

The Reds fear he faces around four weeks out which would rule him out of five games and be a doubt for England's World Cup qualifiers next week.

Liverpool are also waiting to hear if they can stage the second leg of their Champions League clash with RB Leipzig at Anfield on March 10.

It is understood to be unlikely now due to the German side being forced into quarantine on their return from the UK by the current rules in their homeland.

The second-leg of the last-16 tie – which the Reds lead 2-0 – could be switched to Holland or Belgium but there is also a chance it goes to the Puskas Arena in Budapest which staged the first game.
