Dortmund open door to Man Utd signing Sancho – but Erling Haaland “staying”
Borussia Dortmund could sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United this summer – but Erling Haaland looks set to remain with the Bundesliga club.
Dortmund confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a 3-1 win over Mainz on Sunday to ease the club’s financial situation and reduce their need to sell top talent abroad this summer.
Financial figures released in February painted a worrying picture for BVB, with the German giants reporting losses in the region of £23million for the first-half of the 2020-21 financial year.
But with Champions League qualification secure and a healthy boost to the coffers on the way, Dortmund no longer have to consider parting with both of their top talents when the transfer window reopens.
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Borussia Dortmund are qualified to the next Champions League. The club will now fight to keep Erling Haaland for one more season. “I’m sure that he’s staying”, CEO Watzke said.
“Jadon Sancho’s situation is different: he could leave if an important bid arrives.”
That will be news to the ears of executives in the United boardroom, who almost brought Sancho to Old Trafford 12 months ago.
The Red Devils tabled a mammoth £91million bid for the 21-year-old England international which was rejected by Dortmund.
Sancho has since appeared unsettled at Westfalenstadion, sparking rumours that a move to United could finally happen this summer.
Talking to ESPN last month, the Manchester City academy graduate admitted he didn’t know what the future held, saying: “I don’t know about my future,
"I am very happy here in Dortmund at the moment. I love the club, the fans and the team. They gave me my first professional start.”

Speaking at around the same time, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke declared that Dortmund would be prepared to listen to offers for Sancho – if the price was right.
He told DAZN: “I'm not getting involved in probabilities, it's no good. Jadon Sancho has been with us much longer than Erling Haaland. We'll have to speak to Jadon, too.
“If there is an exceptional offer we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always.”
