Barcelona have offered Manchester United striker Edison Cavani an 18-month contract potentially worth up to £8.5m (€10m) according to reports. The Uruguayan hitman’s future at Ralf Rangnick’s side appears to be finite, having only started two Premier League matches all season.
Cavani signed a one-year extension to remain on the red half of Manchester, however, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return has pushed him down the pecking order.
Not only did the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli striker lose his place in the starting eleven, but he also lost his No.7 shirt number, which was immediately given to the Portuguese ace.
Barcelona appear to be courting Cavani ahead of the transfer window, with the intention of signing him on the cheap in January.
And according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Xavi’s side have offered him an 18-month contract worth up to €10m.

It is understood, the Catalans’ offer to the 34-year-old will be worth around €3.5m (£3m) plus €1m (£850,000) in variables for the first six months.
In the following season, his salary will reportedly increase to €4m (3.4m) and €1.5m (£1.3m) in variables.
It is a bold and daring move by Blaugrana president Joan Laporta, who has pledged to bring extra reinforcements to the club in the January transfer window.
However, with Barcelona still reportedly buried beneath debts of up to £1billion, Laporta has already said the club will have to target free transfers and loan signings in January.

“Xavi has asked us to strengthen the squad and we are going to try to do it, but in this moment, we haven’t got any margin to do it,” Laporta said in an interview with Marca.
“Therefore, in this moment we can’t, but we have to let the sporting department work.”
Barcelona are desperately trying to sign a striker, after former Manchester City ace and summer signing Sergio Aguero was forced to retire.
The five-time Premier League champion has been forced to call time on his career, after being diagnosed with a Cardia Arrhythmia.
He announced his premature retirement in an emotional press conference at the Nou Camp, where he stated he has had to put his health and his family before football.

“This conference is to communicate that I have decided to stop playing football,” Aguero said through a haze of tears.
“It is a very difficult moment. The decision I have made I have taken for my health, that is the main reason, because of the problem that I had a month-and-a-half ago.
“I was in good hands of the medical staff who have done their best and have told me the best thing would be to stop playing.
“So I made that decision about a week ago and I want to tell everyone I did everything possible to have hope, but there wasn’t very much.”
It was a huge blow for Xavi’s side, who were knocked out of the Champions League, and are currently languishing in eighth position in La Liga.
