England v Switzerland TV and live stream information as Euro 96 returns to TV
Euro 2020 may have been postponed by a year, but that doesn’t mean football fans can’t cheer on England this summer.
ITV is showing Euro 96 in May, with all 31 games appearing on the ITV Hub during the month.
As well as that, England’s five games from the tournament are being shown on TV, in full, complete with pre-match build-up and analysis from pundits including Alex Ferguson, John Barnes and Glenn Hoddle.
The first match being shown on ITV is the very first game of the tournament, England v Switzerland from Group A.
So while we'll have to wait until next year to see if England can replicate their World Cup form at the European Championship, we can relive the summer football came home.
England v Switzerland TV channel and live stream
England’s opening group game against Switzerland is being shown on ITV4 on Monday evening.
Coverage starts at 6.15pm and runs through to 9.30pm.
It’s the first of six matches being shown on ITV during the month, with England’s other four games and the final between Germany and the Czech Republic also being aired.
Those with access to the ITV Hub can watch England v Switzerland on there as well.
The Euro 96 curtain raiser against Switzerland was England’s first competitive match since 1993 and the infamous match in San Marino that saw them fail to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.
England manager Terry Venables named a strong team featuring David Seaman in goal, a centre back pairing of Tony Adams and Gareth Southgate, Paul Gascoigne at the heart of the midfield and Alan Shearer leading the attack.
Shearer was desperate to end a barren spell in an England shirt; he hadn’t scored in his last 12 appearances with his last goal coming in September 1994.
For the Swiss, Stéphane Henchoz and Ramon Vega – future Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur stars respectively – lined up in defence.
