Ex-Liverpool star who suffered vile injury is willing to play for free aged 41

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is reportedly ready to end his retirement for a second time so that he can bag 100 Ligue 1 goals.

Cisse, now aged 41, has amassed a total of 96 goals in the French top flight, having starred for Auxerre, Marseille and Bastia. He initially retired due to injury in 2015 but made a swift U-turn to later join Swiss outfit Yverdon.

Most recently on the books at Panathinaikos Chicago, the ex-Premier League forward first stated his intention to claim the Ligue 1 century in 2020. "I'm a goal scorer and I'm a man of numbers. I love to score goals and I'm on 96 goals in the French league," he told Sky Sports News.

"I need four more goals and I need to do it before I die. It's something that I keep thinking about. People say, 'Djib, you had a good career and you won a lot of titles' but for me, something is missing. For me it's annoying, it's really annoying and I think now is the right time to try and do it."

Now, The Sun report Cisse has reaffirmed his objective to reach a ton. He is believed to have said: "Being four goals away from 100 in Ligue 1, it doesn't suit me. If a club comes and offers me the chance to play, I will go for free."

Also netting 45 in the Premier League, over spells at Liverpool, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers, Cisse suffered two vile leg breaks whilst at Anfield, causing him to miss the 2006 World Cup.

The Frenchman sustained the first on his left leg during a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers before breaking his right on international duty with France.

Despite two lengthy spells on the sidelines he featured as a substitute in Liverpool's 2005 Champions League final triumph, scoring the Reds' second penalty in the shootout.
