Ferdinand identifies trio Arteta should build Arsenal team around
Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should build around three of the Gunners' young talents as he bids to shape his side going forward.
Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Joe Willock have all impressed in various forms this season, and the ex-Manchester United defender thinks they are sort of players that Arteta should be turning to, as well as bringing in defensive recruits.
"Really you’re meant to be looking at centre-halves, they should’ve been looking there for the last 10 years and they haven’t got it right," Ferdinand said in a video on his Instagram Live.
" Arsenal is a fantastic football club, what a club, a massive club. I think they’ve got to get it right in other areas of the pitch.
"Keep bringing in these [players], Martinelli, Saka, Willock, all these boys.
"I love seeing that but they’ve got to get stability and strength in there, some people who will do good for the club, because it hasn’t worked with the likes of Sokratis and [Shkodran] Mustafi, I don’t think they haven’t been able to get it right, and [Calum] Chambers before that."
Ferdinand also reacted to reports that Arenal could be looking at the Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic, who has struggled to hold down a place in the team during his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
