Five stars who could flee Atletico Madrid as Diego Simeone feels the pressure

There could be an exodus on Diego Simeone's hands at Atletico Madrid as they toil in La Liga.

Their latest defeat came at the hands of Granada despite Joao Felix giving them an early lead with Darwin Machis and Jorge Molina netting for their opponents.

That is the fourth defeat in a row for Atletico in the league as their title defence appears to already be as good as over.

Los Rojiblancos are 17 points behind leaders Real Madrid and some stars have already been linked with exits ahead of the January transfer window.

So, who could be on their way out?

Kieran Trippier

The England international has been strongly linked with an exit over the last six months and a move to Manchester United was on the cards in the summer.

However, that appears to be extremely unlikely now with Diogo Dalot stepping up to take Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s spot under Ralf Rangnick.

Nevertheless, Trippier appears ready to can his time in the sun with Newcastle hot on his tail.

Eddie Howe has made strengthening his defence a priority ahead of the January transfer window and the former Tottenham star could be the first signing of the new Saudi regime.

Marcos Llorente

Another player who has had his future talked up is Llorente, who was also on United’s shortlist and remains to this day with the club hellbent on signing a midfielder.

The Spain international made the controversial swap across town from Real Madrid to Atletico in 2019 and has become an integral player under Simeone.

But a move to the Premier League could well be on the way this January despite signing a new contract in the summer.

However, the chance to shine for United – or another Champions League side – could be too much to tempt the 26-year-old.

Thomas Lemar

After a tough start to his career at Atletico, Lemar has finally started to find his feet under Simeone.

So it would be a massive blow to lose the Frenchman at this stage of the season but the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea could open talks soon amid the club’s toils.

The 26-year-old has been valued at £36m and that could prove a bargain for whoever manages to snap up the winger.

Lemar has a contract until 2023 at the Wanda Metropolitano so a decision might have to come soon if they cannot renew his terms.

Yannick Carrasco

It has been a whirlwind career for Carrasco, who is back at Atletico after a spell in China at a young age.

Many criticised the Belgium international but a return to Europe has seen him regain his position as a key member of the Madrid squad.

However, there is nothing to stop the winger from doing what he did last time and departing the club when the cards are down.

While China might be off the table, Premier League clubs could become interested if a deal could be struck.

Jose Gimenez

In every Simeone side, there is one player that epitomises the dark arts that he mastered as a player and as a coach.

Gimenez is that man – taking the mantle from his old countryman Diego Godin – but has already been linked with a move away.

And while Atletico’s form plummets, those reports will surely be reignited – particularly from Chelsea who are desperate for a centre-back.

With four players out of contract at the back, Gimenez could be an ideal solution for Thomas Tuchel as he looks to reinforce his defence.
