Gorgeous World Cup reporter who ‘distracted’ Iker Casillas later married him

The stunning journalist who caught the attention of Iker Casillas during a match later married the former Real Madrid goalkeeper.

It was alleged that Sara Carbonero caused the Spaniard to lose concentration during the 2010 World Cup, allowing for an unexpected win for Switzerland.

At the time, Carbonero and her TV crew were standing near the player’s end of the pitch, not too far from Casillas.

But the suggestions, first made by The Times and other parts of the English press, were squashed by Madrid-based Spanish newspapers.

In any case, the pair later married, tying the knot in 2016, and bringing two children into the world.

The pair turned into a Spanish power couple- regularly hitting the headlines. But the two eventually split in 2021 after five years of marriage.

Since then, Carbonero reportedly underwent an emergency operation three years after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Spanish magazine Lecturas reported the medical procedure took place on Monday.

The report stated that: "After carrying out a check-up, the medical team decided Sara's admission was a matter of urgency.”

It was also said that Casillas' decision to remain in Qatar as an official sports commentator for Spanish broadcaster RTVE came after offering to leave to support her.

His former partner announced in May 2019 she had been operated on for ovarian cancer – at a time when she and Iker were still together.

Casillas officially announced his retirement from professional football in August after he suffered a heart attack in May 2019 while playing for Portuguese top-flight side Porto.

The La Liga legend recently claimed that his former team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo, is still a strong contender to win the Golden Boot at the World Cup even though he’s made a slow start to the tournament.

"It seems that Cristiano has come to the World Cup as a guest and people don't count on him because of all the trouble he has at Manchester United," Casillas told Marca. "But… I do [have him as a contender for the Golden Boot].

"When people talk about Cris they forget what he has done. Come on, he doesn't forget, because he knows what he's done."
