How Gabriel Magalhaes may line up for Man Utd if Arsenal transfer hijack happens

Manchester United have emerged as serious contenders for Lille centre-back and Arsenal transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Brazilian defender was believed to be nearing a move to the Gunners, who are looking to strengthen at the back this summer.

But United, who are in a similar boat, have also reportedly approached Gabriel’s representatives, along with Serie A side Napoli.

The Red Devils are not thought to have made a formal bid or spoken directly to the player, but their interest is clear to see.

So where would he slot in under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? Daily Star Sport takes a closer look.

David de Gea is still in goal, but under serious pressure from the returning Dean Henderson.

At left-back is Luke Shaw, who will also have to bat off Brandon Williams for a place, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on the right.

Club captain Harry Maguire retains his place in the middle, and would line up alongside Gabriel in the heart of United’s defence, which could prove to be a formidable partnership.

In front of them, Fred and Paul Pogba will link defence and attack, having proved to be a strong pair in midfield.

Lille president Gerard Lopez admitted that Gabriel was still a very raw talent, but insisted he had a huge potential.

"He is a great kid and that is one of the most important things," Lopez told Sky Sports News.

"He didn't have an easy start with us given the fact that the coach at the time didn't trust him because of his age.

"He is a real fighter and has immense physical presence but knows how to use it smartly. He is still raw and I know the Brazil national team are looking at him very seriously for the A-team.

"I think he is at the start of something big, and he does everything to succeed."
