Interview of Ronaldo mocking Man City resurfaces as star ‘pushes for move’
Cristiano Ronaldo's response to being asked about Manchester City's transfer spending and whether he would consider a move to the club from 2015 has resurfaced.
In the BBC interview from six years ago, Ronaldo stated football is about passion and not money as he also admitted he felt he was better than Lionel Messi.
The 36-year-old is reportedly pushing for a move to Manchester City from Juventus before the end of the transfer window with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
L'Equipe report he is trying to 'engineer' the transfer after it was claimed in Italy that his agent had offered him to the Premier League champions.
In 2015, Ronaldo was asked by the BBC's Dan Roan "City have a lot of money to spend on big players, is it possible that one day, if they gave you the right offer, you could play for them?"
Ronaldo shut down the chance, though, as he answered by saying "You think the money is going to change my mind now?
"I don't think so. I think it is not going to be the problem, because if you will speak about the money, I will go to Qatar.
"[They] maybe have more money than Manchester City, but it's not about the money. It's about the passion," explained Ronaldo.
Six years on, however, and he has reportedly changed his stance on joining City, despite his status as a hero to Manchester United supporters.
Will Cristiano Ronaldo complete a move to Manchester City before the transfer deadline? Let us know in the comments section below.
Ronaldo spent six years in Manchester with the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009 after arriving from Sporting Lisbon as a teenager.
During this time he scored 118 goals in 292 appearances and won the first of his five Ballon d'Ors as well as a further 10 trophies with the club including the Champions League and three league titles.
City are understood to now be his only option for a move out of Italy this summer, despite also being linked with United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered the Portugal forward to City for a £25million fee as his future looks uncertain, having been left on the bench for Juventus season opener at the weekend.
During the resurfaced interview from 2015, Ronaldo went on to discuss the debate of who is the better player out of himself and Lionel Messi.
"I don't need to say 'I'm in the history of football, I'm a legend'. The numbers say everything," he explained to Roan.
"In my mind, I'm always the best. I don't care what people think, what they say. In my mind, not just this year but always, I'm always the best.
"It's opinions, I respect the opinions. Maybe in your opinion, Messi is better than me, but in my mind I am better than him. So it's simple."
