Newcastle United are in desperate need of reinforecments as the realisation of the relegation begins to loom, and Jamie Redknapp has suggested two signings that they should make in January. The Toon suffered yet another defeat on Sunday as they were thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City at St James’ Park, casting further doubt over their long-term Premier League status.
With just one win, and join bottom with Norwich who have a game in hand on the Magpies, new boss Eddie Howe needs a miracle to happen in January, although the club got as close as they could to one in October.
Newcastle are now the richest club in the world and by some margin, but buying in January has gone from being a luxury to an absolute necessity if they are to avoid a humiliating relegation.
Many stars have been linked with Newcastle due to their vast riches, but Jamie Redknapp has suggested two signings that the club should prioritise in January.
With the upcoming transfer window just two weeks away, the rumour mill is in full swing, but Redknapp has suggested two stars that Howe should sign to guide Newcastle to safety this season.

Speaking following their 4-0 defeat to City, Redknapp suggested: “You can’t just keep relying on Callum Wilson to get you the goals. That’s where the certain individuals who are getting mentioned [to join], obviously Jesse Lingard’s had a shout.
“If I was Newcastle right now Jesse Lingard he would be my first signing.
“He’s out of contract in the summer, you get him at a good price, great mentality, loads of goals in him.”
Obviously it’s tough to expect anything other than a defeat against City at the moment, with Pep Guardiola’s side favourite to secure another Premier League title.
Against City, Howe stuck 10 men behind the ball, and gambled with Wilson up top on his own, but even with how good the Englishman is, it’s not enough for Newcastle.

Allan Saint-Maximin is also a huge outlet for Newcastle, but failing those two, it’s hard to see where the goals will come from in Howe’s side.
Lingard revived his career at West Ham last season as he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at West Ham, but his decision to stay at United hasn’t gone as expected for the midfielder.
It’s looking increasingly likely that Lingard will not be at Old Trafford come the start of next season, but Redknapp believes that Newcastle should take advantage of the situation, and United may want to cash in on the 28-year-old.
Newcastle may lack goal scorers at one end, but they’re susceptible to leaking goals at the other, and Redknapp has also suggested an experienced defender that Howe should target.
Redknapp added: “Conor Coady’s had a mention, whether he’d want to leave Wolves now [I’m not sure].
“Newcastle have a luxury at the bottom that the other teams don’t. They’ve got so much money to spend, and players might look at this as an opportunity to go and play for a huge club.
“Yes you can risk going down, but I think they can recruit to get the best.”
Newcastle will have to use their riches to their advantage in January, but due to the nature of their wealth, and their desperation for stars, new faces certainly won’t come cheap.
