Jordan Pickford sweats over England No1 role as Gareth Southgate invites battle

Jordan Pickford is sweating on his status as England’s No 1 after Gareth Southgate opened the door to a challenge.

Pickford has endured a tough season at Everton and is under pressure from Burnley’s Nick Pope.

With Manchester United’s Dean Henderson also enjoying a strong campaign on loan at Sheffield United, doubts have been raised about Pickford.

Southgate said: “I think we have three decent goalkeepers, I think they are the best three in the country at the moment.

“In every position on the field we've got to have that competition. It’s ten months since we played. There have been fluctuations in form during that time.

“I've also got to bear in mind that Jordan has had excellent performances for us with England, has never let us down in terms of his performances for us.
